'Glassmaker (a song for Margaret)' was commissioned by Dr. Brittany Lasch, Assistant Professor of Trombone at Indiana University Bloomington, renowned soloist, and avid champion of new music for the trombone. This piece was premiered at the 2024 DC Trombone Workshop in Winchester, Virginia. Part of the inspiration for this piece was born out of the room where Dr. Lasch first asked me to email her about this project and that it would later be premiered in. This chapel on the Shenandoah University campus has beautiful stained glass windows on both sides of the room. These vivid images of light were just asking me to write music about it, but it was hard to find a way to capture just how beautiful they are. Another source of inspiration was my late Aunt Margaret who made stained glass art. As I wrote this piece I couldn't help but write music that made me think of her. She is the inspiration for the title 'Glassmaker (a song for Margaret)', and this piece is dedicated to her memory.
